ilumniz — Terms of Service

Version: 2.0 Effective as of: June 4, 2026 Last updated: June 4, 2026

Convenience translation. This is a translation of the original Brazilian Portuguese version. In case of any divergence between versions, the Brazilian Portuguese version prevails.

1. About these Terms

Welcome to ilumniz ("ilumniz", "platform", "service", "we", "us"). These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of ilumniz, a web platform geared toward university studies and interaction among students. By creating an account, accessing, or using the service, you ("you", "user") represent that you have read, understood, and fully accepted these Terms, as well as our Privacy Policy, which is an integral part of this instrument.

If you do not agree with any provision of these Terms, do not use ilumniz.

2. Who operates ilumniz

ilumniz is operated by an individual (natural person), hereinafter referred to simply as "ilumniz". All contacts regarding the service, support, privacy, and the exercise of rights must be directed to:

support@ilumniz.com

3. What ilumniz offers

ilumniz is a collaborative platform for university students, organized, in its current phase, into three major areas:

  • Classroom — tools for academic organization and study, both individual and collaborative, including notes, file management, tasks, calendar, disciplines, materials, classes, and class features (forum, announcements/notices, shared materials, class chat, and schedule catalog).
  • Learningartificial-intelligence-assisted learning features, including the Lux assistant (chat with multiple AI models), the study tools (summaries, flashcards, mind maps, study plans, glossaries, podcasts, among others), quiz generation, document-based questions and answers (RAG), image analysis, image generation, text-to-speech, real-time web search, and the multi-model query mode (Council).
  • Networking — social and community features, including public profile, post feed, connections between users, lists and bookmarks, search, chat (direct and group messages), voice and video calls, events (with RSVP, invitations, and discovery), project spaces (Spaces/Projetos), notifications, and communities linked to higher-education institutions.

The availability, scope, and limits of each feature may vary according to the plan contracted, the phase of the service, the usage quotas (in particular of the AI features), and verification of "active university student" status, as described below. Features may be added, modified, limited, or removed at any time.

ilumniz is not an educational institution, does not issue certificates, does not replace academic or professional guidance, and does not guarantee academic results, passing grades, marks, or performance of any kind.

4. Beta phase — important notices

ilumniz is currently in beta phase, with registration open to the public. You expressly acknowledge and accept that:

  • The service may present failures, instabilities, unavailability, and unexpected behavior, at any time and without prior notice.
  • Features may be added, modified, limited, suspended, or removed at any time.
  • Data entered may be lost, altered, migrated, or deleted as a result of updates, maintenance, fixes, infrastructure migrations, or discontinuation of components.
  • There is no availability commitment (SLA), support response time, or historical data preservation during the beta.
  • ilumniz may be discontinued, in whole or in part, including permanently, without compensation.

You are solely responsible for keeping your own copies of important content outside the platform.

5. Eligibility and registration

To create an account and use ilumniz, you must be at least 18 (eighteen) years of age and have full civil capacity under Brazilian law. By registering, you represent that you meet this requirement.

Some features may be restricted to active university students, with such status verified through the submission or validation of an institutional email issued by a higher-education institution. ilumniz may, at its discretion, request additional verifications, revoke access to specific features (including access to university communities) if the status is not confirmed or ceases to exist, and adjust eligibility criteria at any time. A single account may maintain more than one enrollment/affiliation (for example, at more than one institution) and distinct roles (for example, student or faculty member).

6. Account and security

You are responsible for:

  • Providing truthful, current, and complete information at registration and keeping it up to date.
  • Keeping your access credentials confidential (including password and one-time passcodes — OTP) and maintaining control over any third-party login methods that may be linked (for example, Google).
  • All activities carried out under your account, except in cases of misuse demonstrably beyond your responsibility.

Authentication may occur by email and password, by one-time passcode (OTP) sent by email, and/or by third-party identity providers (for example, Google, via OAuth). When using federated login, you accept the terms and privacy policy of the respective provider, in addition to these Terms.

Immediately notify ilumniz, at support@ilumniz.com, of any suspected unauthorized use, credential compromise, or security breach.

7. Your content

"User Content" means any information, data, text, file, image, video, audio, note, task, calendar event, feed post (post, poll, comment, repost), chat message, call metadata, command or prompt sent to the artificial-intelligence features, attachment, reaction, tag (hashtag, @mention), bookmark folder, list, event and project-space content, class forum post, profile configuration, or other material that you submit, create, upload, store, publish, or transmit through ilumniz.

7.1. Ownership. You retain ownership of your User Content. Nothing in these Terms transfers the intellectual property of that content to ilumniz.

7.2. License to operate the service. So that ilumniz can effectively provide the service to you and to the other people to whom you decide to display your User Content, you grant ilumniz a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicensable (only to suppliers strictly necessary for operation), and revocable license to host, store, copy, transmit, display, distribute to other users in accordance with the audience you define, process, index, technically adapt, and back up the User Content, solely to: (i) operate, maintain, protect, and improve the service; (ii) execute features that you actively request or configure (for example, publishing a post, sending a message, starting a call, submitting a command or document to the Lux assistant or the AI tools); (iii) comply with legal obligations. This license expressly includes the transmission of User Content to artificial-intelligence, vector-store, text-to-speech, and call-infrastructure providers (subprocessors listed in the Privacy Policy), to the extent necessary to execute the features you request, and the storage of vector representations (embeddings) and other derived technical outputs.

This license terminates when the respective content is deleted from the platform, except for: technical backup copies; copies retained by other users who have legitimately viewed, reposted, quoted, or received the content; data necessary for compliance with legal obligations; and already-anonymized information.

7.3. Content generated by artificial intelligence. The AI features may generate content from your commands (for example, study texts, quizzes, audio, and images). As between you and ilumniz, you are the owner of the results (outputs) you generate, subject to (i) the terms of the underlying AI providers, (ii) any third-party rights, and (iii) your responsibility for the commands and the results. Attention: at present, the generated images are stored in a publicly accessible repository, accessible via a public URL with no expiration period (see Privacy Policy, section 8). You are responsible for not generating, with the AI features, content that violates these Terms, the law, or third-party rights.

7.4. Limitations of AI. The AI features are assistive and may produce inaccurate, incomplete, or incorrect information ("hallucinations"). They do not constitute academic, legal, medical, financial, or professional guidance, and do not replace verification through reliable sources and your own judgment. You are solely responsible for the use you make of the responses and materials generated, including before your educational institution.

7.5. Responsibility for content. You represent and warrant that you hold all rights necessary over the User Content and that its use on ilumniz does not violate third-party rights, applicable law, or these Terms. ilumniz does not endorse, does not pre-review, nor is it responsible for the content entered by users, including posts, messages, comments, lists, profiles, attachments, and any materials published by other users.

7.6. Third-party study materials. You are solely responsible for respecting copyright and other intellectual-property rights relating to books, course packets, articles, exams, recordings, and any materials submitted to the platform (including as a source for AI features or when published in social areas).

7.7. Image and data of third parties. When publishing content that involves a photo, name, voice, personal data, or other identifiable information of third parties (in posts, comments, messages, profile, attachments, or AI commands), you represent that you have the appropriate consent to do so and assume full responsibility for the use of that information.

8. Acceptable use and prohibited conduct

When using ilumniz, you agree not to:

  • Violate applicable laws, third-party rights, or these Terms.
  • Submit, store, publish, transmit, or generate by means of the AI features content that is illegal, fraudulent, defamatory, discriminatory, racist, xenophobic, misogynistic, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, hateful, violent, or sexually explicit content involving minors, or that promotes unlawful acts.
  • Share copyright-protected materials without authorization.
  • Engage in harassment, stalking, threats, intimidation, or bullying against any person, on or off the platform, including by means of posts, comments, direct messages, calls, events, or communities.
  • Engage in doxxing or disclose personal data of third parties without authorization (address, phone, document, precise location, sensitive data).
  • Share or generate intimate content, nudity, or sexual material of third parties without consent (including, but not limited to, "revenge porn" or AI-generated material with the unauthorized likeness of a real person).
  • Use the AI features for abusive purposes, such as attempting to extract data from other users, generating spam or mass deceptive content, circumventing the models' safety filters, or submitting commands that violate these Terms.
  • Send spam, unsolicited mass messages, chain letters, unauthorized advertising, pyramid schemes, scams, or phishing.
  • Use bots, automation, fake accounts, or multiple accounts to artificially inflate engagement (likes, followers, reposts, views, comments, poll votes, event attendances) or to circumvent limits, quotas, and restrictions (including AI quotas).
  • Falsify identity, pretend to be another real person, educational institution, teacher, authority, or brand, or create profiles that are misleading as to institutional affiliation.
  • Attempt to access areas, accounts, systems, conversations, calls, spaces, or data to which you do not have a right of access.
  • Carry out reverse engineering, decompilation, mass scraping, automated extraction, scraping of profiles, posts, connections, or AI content, sweeps, intrusion tests, or any attempt to circumvent security measures, usage limitations, or access controls.
  • Interfere with the normal operation of the service, overload the infrastructure, distribute malware, or introduce malicious code.
  • Use ilumniz to create a competing product or service, or to train third-party artificial-intelligence models from the service, the feed, messages, profiles, the outputs of the AI features, or any data extracted therefrom.
  • Engage in academic fraud prohibited by the institution to which you are affiliated, it being your responsibility to observe your institution's rules regarding the use of AI tools.
  • Pretend to have an active affiliation with a higher-education institution to which you do not belong, for the purpose of accessing restricted communities.

ilumniz may, at its discretion, investigate suspected violations, remove content, limit the reach of posts, suspend or terminate accounts, restrict access to communities, spaces, and AI features, without prejudice to other applicable legal measures.

9. Public content and social interactions

ilumniz offers social features in which User Content may be displayed to other people. You expressly acknowledge and accept that:

9.1. Audience of posts. Each feed post may have its audience configured by you (for example, "everyone", "followers only", or "only me"). ilumniz will make reasonable efforts to respect this setting, but cannot prevent people authorized to see the content from capturing, copying, quoting, reposting, commenting on, taking screenshots of, or sharing it outside the platform.

9.2. Public profile by default. Unless otherwise indicated in the settings, your profile is public within the platform: display name, username, photo, cover photo, bio, university affiliation, course, visual customizations of the profile card, follower counts, and public activity (posts, lists, and folders marked as public) may be viewed by other users and appear in search, contact suggestions, trending hashtags, and community feeds. Profiles configured as private restrict the viewing of posts to accepted connections.

9.3. Connections. The "follower / following" relationship is a public metadata within the platform and may be viewed by other users. Accepted connections are bidirectional. Connection requests and their acceptance/refusal may generate notifications for the parties involved. Blocking a user is, as a rule, bidirectional and may remove existing connections.

9.4. @Mentions and hashtags. Mentioning another user (@) or using a hashtag (#) in a post generates a notification to the mentioned user and associates the content with a public hashtag page, to the extent of the post's audience.

9.5. Lists, bookmarks, and folders. Lists and bookmark folders may be created as public or private. When public, they may be followed, viewed, shared, and quoted by other users. Folders with collaborators expose the added bookmarks to the collaborators.

9.6. Events. When declaring attendance at an event ("going" / "interested"), your name and profile may be displayed in the attendee list ("who's going"), which prioritizes your connections. Event invitations reveal who invited whom. You may share an event on the feed, embedding an event card and your attendance status with the chosen audience. The ordering and discovery of events may use a personalized relevance score based on engagement, interests, and connections.

9.7. Persistence of copies. After you delete content, third parties may retain copies legitimately obtained (quotes, reposts, screenshots, received messages, event/space content), and ilumniz does not control nor is responsible for those copies.

9.8. Indexing. Public content may be indexed by ilumniz's internal search and displayed in suggestions and discovery. ilumniz, at this time, does not permit indexing of the authenticated areas by external search engines, but may change this policy.

10. Communications between users (chat and calls)

ilumniz offers direct messages (1-1) and group rooms, with text, attachments, reactions, message pinning, and read receipts, in addition to voice and video calls (1-1 and group). You acknowledge and accept that:

10.1. Confidentiality and encryption. Messages and calls are protected in transit by encryption (TLS) and stored/transported by the providers' infrastructure (Supabase database and call provider). Messages and calls are not end-to-end encrypted. In exceptional situations — such as a court order, a legitimate administrative request, defense in proceedings, investigation of a security incident, or the determination of a violation of these Terms — ilumniz may access, preserve, and/or make available the content of messages, in accordance with applicable law.

10.2. Attachments. Attachments sent in messages (images, videos, PDFs, notes, documents) are stored in ilumniz's storage infrastructure and follow the same rules of these Terms.

10.3. Voice and video calls. Calls are transported by a real-time infrastructure provider (WebRTC/SFU). ilumniz does not record or transcribe calls; we process only metadata (participants, start/end times, duration, invitation/join/leave status and outcome, such as "missed" or "declined"), which make up your call history. This metadata may be visible to the other participants.

10.4. Copies among participants. Messages, reactions, attachments, and files sent to other participants remain visible to those participants, even if you delete your copy, leave the room, or close your account. Read receipts, typing status, and reactions may be visible to the other members of the conversation.

10.5. Group rooms. In group rooms, all members may see the room's message history (from the moment they joined, in accordance with the room's rules), the participants, reactions, and attachments.

10.6. Conduct. All prohibited conduct provided for in section 8 applies to messages and calls. Messages and participations may be reported and analyzed by ilumniz for purposes of reactive moderation, security, and legal compliance.

11. Events and project spaces (Spaces/Projetos)

11.1. Events. ilumniz may display and recommend events linked to institutions and interests. When interacting with events (viewing, declaring attendance, inviting, sharing), you generate engagement and attendance data, processed in accordance with the Privacy Policy. Attendance status and attendee lists may be visible to other users (see section 9.6).

11.2. Project spaces. Spaces (Spaces/Projetos) are collaborative environments with shared ownership and members, a role per member (admin/moderator/member), and configurable visibility (public, by request, or invite-only). When joining a space, your identity may be displayed in the member list, and the content you publish is shared in accordance with the space's visibility rules. The space's administration may manage members, content, and settings.

11.3. Conduct and moderation. The prohibited conduct of section 8 and the reactive moderation of section 12 apply to events and spaces.

12. University communities and moderation

Communities are groupings linked to higher-education institutions. You acknowledge and accept that:

12.1. Access. Access to a community may be conditioned on the verification of an active institutional email from the respective institution.

12.2. Loss of affiliation and alumni. If you cease to meet the "active university student" requirement (graduation, transfer, dismissal, expiration of institutional email, among others), ilumniz may adjust or remove your access to the community and to content whose audience is restricted to the community. The alumni status and the respective accesses may be defined and changed by ilumniz in accordance with the product's rules.

12.3. Reactive moderation. ilumniz practices reactive moderation: content published in communities, forums, events, and spaces is not pre-reviewed. ilumniz may, upon report or on its own initiative, remove posts, restrict reach, suspend members, and adopt additional measures when it understands that there has been a violation of these Terms or of specific rules that may be published.

12.4. No institutional affiliation. The existence of a community linked to an institution does not mean that ilumniz is an official partner, provider, or representative of that institution, unless expressly stated otherwise.

13. ilumniz's intellectual property

The service, including the "ilumniz" brand, the name, the logos, the visual identity, the software, the source code, the interfaces, the texts, the layout, the structural databases, the features, and other elements, is and shall remain the property of ilumniz or its licensors, and is protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.

These Terms grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, and revocable license to access and use ilumniz as provided herein. No other right is granted, expressly or implicitly.

Any feedback, suggestion, or input voluntarily submitted about the service may be used by ilumniz without restriction and without obligation of compensation.

14. Payments, plans, and subscriptions

ilumniz offers free and paid plans. Features, limits, and usage quotas (in particular of the AI features) may vary according to the plan. The creation of a free account does not confer a lifetime or free right to any features, present or future.

14.1. Plans and prices. The available plans, their features, limits, currencies, billing intervals, and prices are displayed at the time of contracting. ilumniz may modify, create, discontinue, or restructure plans, features, limits, and prices at any time, with reasonable notice where applicable. There is no guarantee that the service, or part of it, will remain free.

14.2. Payment processing. Payments are processed by a specialized third party (currently Stripe), subject to the terms and privacy policy of the respective provider. ilumniz does not store complete card data; such data is processed by the processor.

14.3. Renewal and cancellation. Paid subscriptions may renew automatically in accordance with the conditions displayed at the time of contracting. You may cancel the renewal at any time, retaining access until the end of the cycle already paid for, unless otherwise indicated at the time of purchase.

14.4. Refunds. Refund requests will be assessed in accordance with applicable Brazilian law, especially the Brazilian Consumer Defense Code and the right of withdrawal provided for in distance contracts, when applicable, in addition to the specific conditions that may be disclosed by ilumniz.

14.5. Taxes. Where applicable, prices may be subject to taxes in accordance with the law in force.

15. Communications

By using ilumniz, you agree to receive operational communications necessary for the functioning of the service (for example: registration confirmations, security notifications, charges, notices about updates to these Terms or the Privacy Policy, essential changes to the service, notifications of social interactions such as mentions, comments, new followers, messages, event invitations, and calls), by email, push, or within the platform itself, in accordance with your notification settings.

Marketing communications (news, promotions, tips, surveys) will only be sent upon opt-in (prior consent) and may be unsubscribed from at any time, without prejudice to receiving operational communications.

16. Changes to the service and to suppliers

ilumniz is in continuous evolution. You expressly acknowledge and agree that ilumniz may, at any time and at its sole discretion:

  • Modify, replace, or discontinue software, APIs, libraries, databases, providers of infrastructure, hosting, authentication, analytics, monitoring, payment processing, artificial intelligence, vectorization, text-to-speech, real-time calls, messaging, email sending, and any other suppliers or subprocessors used to operate the service.
  • Migrate data between environments, regions, suppliers, and technical operators, in compliance with the original purpose of the processing and applicable legal obligations.
  • Change features, system requirements, data formats, routes, usage processes, and integrations, including the AI models made available and their quotas.

The continuity of the service is a goal of ilumniz, but is not guaranteed, especially during the beta. The list of suppliers and subprocessors currently used is presented, for reference, in the Privacy Policy, and may be updated periodically.

17. Suspension and termination

17.1. By ilumniz's initiative. ilumniz may suspend or terminate your access, in whole or in part, with or without notice, when, at its reasonable discretion, it understands that: (i) there has been a violation of these Terms or of applicable law; (ii) there is a risk to the security, integrity, reputation, or viability of the service; (iii) there has been abusive use, including in social or AI features; (iv) it is necessary by legal or judicial determination; or (v) the service, or part of it, is being discontinued.

17.2. By the user's initiative. You may terminate your account at any time, through the mechanisms available on the platform or by contacting support@ilumniz.com. After the request for deletion/deactivation, a grace period of approximately 30 (thirty) days applies for reactivation, after which the associated data is deleted in cascade, in accordance with the Privacy Policy.

17.3. Effects. After termination, access to the service will cease and the associated data may be deleted as described in the Privacy Policy, subject to any legal retention obligations and the persistence of legitimate copies held by other users (messages already received, posts already viewed or reposted, event/space content, etc.). Provisions that, by their nature, should survive termination (such as intellectual property, limitation of liability, indemnification, applicable law, and venue) remain in force.

18. Disclaimers of warranty

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, ilumniz is provided "as is" and "as available", without express or implied warranties of any kind, including, but not limited to, warranties of fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability, accuracy, currency, correctness of the responses generated by artificial intelligence, absence of errors, uninterrupted operation, absolute security, or compatibility with specific systems.

ilumniz does not guarantee that the service will meet particular expectations, that it will be free of failures, that the AI features will produce correct or appropriate results, nor that any content will be preserved without alterations, losses, or unavailability, especially during the beta phase.

19. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, ilumniz shall not be liable for:

  • Indirect losses, lost profits, loss of opportunity, loss of data, moral damages arising from interruptions, failures, unavailability, migrations, or changes to the service.
  • The user's academic, professional, or personal results, including those arising from the use of responses or materials generated by artificial intelligence.
  • Content, conduct, omissions, or acts of third parties, including other users (in posts, comments, messages, calls, profiles, lists, events, spaces, and communities), identity providers, AI providers, payment processors, and infrastructure suppliers.
  • Events of force majeure, fortuitous events, or circumstances beyond ilumniz's reasonable control.

No provision of these Terms excludes rights that cannot, by law, be limited, especially in relationships governed by the Brazilian Consumer Defense Code.

20. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold ilumniz harmless from any claims, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from: (i) your misuse of the service; (ii) violation of these Terms; (iii) violation of third-party rights, including intellectual property, image, honor, and privacy; or (iv) content entered by you or generated by AI on the platform, including in social areas.

21. Changes to these Terms

ilumniz may update these Terms at any time, to reflect legal, operational, supplier, feature, or commercial-model changes. The version in force will always be published on the website, with the respective "last updated" date.

Material changes will be communicated by reasonable means (for example, a notice on the platform or by email). Continued use of the service after the publication of a new version means your acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree, you must cease use and terminate your account.

22. Applicable law and venue

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federative Republic of Brazil. The courts of the District (Comarca) of Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul are hereby elected to settle any disputes arising from these Terms, with express waiver of any other, however privileged, except for the consumer's right to sue in the venue of their domicile when applicable.

23. General provisions

  • Entirety. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any specific notices displayed in particular features, constitute the entire agreement between you and ilumniz.
  • Assignment. You may not assign these Terms without prior consent. ilumniz may assign them to successors, acquirers, or affiliates, upon notice.
  • Waiver and severability of clauses. Tolerance regarding the breach of any clause does not imply a waiver. If any provision is deemed invalid, the remaining ones remain in force.
  • Prevailing language. In case of divergence between translations of these Terms, the Portuguese (Brazil) version prevails.
  • Contact. Any notice or question related to these Terms must be sent to support@ilumniz.com.
